The Yemen Civil War began in September 2014, when the Houthi movement, a Zaidi Shia armed group from the country's northwest, seized the capital Sanaa and forced President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi to flee.
A Saudi-led coalition intervened in March 2015 to restore him and failed. A decade later, the Houthis still hold Sanaa and have moved from firing Katyusha rockets to launching ballistic missiles, courtesy of Iran. Saudi Arabia and the United States back the internationally recognized government. The UAE backs a southern separatist movement that fights the Houthis and undermines the government at the same time.
